In every religion, there is a trickster, a devil, or someone who goes against the establishement. In Christianity it’s Lucifer, in Norse mythology it’s Loki, in Greek mythology it’s Prometheus. The Gods, especially the omniscient ones, are not above checks and balances. Despite how negatively the established powers portrayed these tricksters, social movements throughout history have embraced the anti-hero.

The french revolution took Luciferian symbolism as their own. The enlightenment movement took Lucifer’s ideals at heart in the pursuit of knowledge, individual freedom, and challenging catholic inquisition. There is even a Satanic Temple in the US, that fights for religious freedom in local government.

But Lucifer is a means to an end. Not the end itself. In Hinduism, the God Shiva acts as the destroyer of worlds. He paves the way for a new cosmic cycle, leaving behind a legacy of renewal. For the young to thrive, the old must die. Or at least stand aside of the way of progress.
